Apparently, they do teach you something in kindergarten. Every day after school I ask Zach, "What did you do today?". The usual answers are, "Nothing" or "I don't know" or "I don't remember"... it's like pulling teeth trying to get details out of him.
So, on our day trip to San Diego I brought his homework with us and it turns out they DO teach him things. What blew me away was his ability to know how to spell and write five different colors. When did this happen? He's been in school for less than a month and it's only 3 hours per day.
The unfortunate thing is we now BOTH have school work every night. Even though it's minimal, it's just one more thing to do that I wasn't quite ready for.
