For the last 5 weeks we have been dealing with this recurring abscess in Josh's mouth. We've been trying to do a lot of natural solutions like rinsing with hydrogen peroxide and drinking lots of probiotics. It was helping but we could tell that Josh has been different. Almost as if his body was tired of constantly fighting this infection. We decided it was time to just pull the tooth because the dentist stated we'd be doing this until the tooth fell out and she estimated we were still a year from that happening. We also couldn't afford these Probiotic shots that cost like $5 for every 3oz bottle. It was like getting a Venti Latte at Starbucks every day without the joy of the caffeine.
If you know me, you know I like to be frank with the boys. So, I told him what was going to happen and he seemed ready when the time came. He started with a little nitrous oxide which I learned did not have the same effect it does on other kids. He was still a bit uptight, but it worked enough to give him lots of novocaine.
Before we knew it, the dentist was loosening his tooth and pulled it out. This is little Joshy inhaling 100% oxygen and getting a little glassy eyed as he came back to normal.
In the end, he remained calm and was happy to get the tooth out:
It wasn't the most conventional way of losing his first tooth so the Tooth Fairy gave him a little extra for being brave. Here's to no more infections!!
